Five centuries before the European conquest of the Americas began, advanced ancient civilizations roamed the Americas.
One such civilization inhabited the Brazilian Amazon, creating a bizarre arrangement of MASSIVE towering blocks.
Today, evidence of an extremely sophisticated civilization can be found in the Amazon and its surrounding.
The Megalithic stone circle, Rego Grande site (colloquially known as the Amazon Stonehenge and referred to in academic sources as AP-CA-18) is located in Amapa state, Brazil, near the city of Calçoene.
It consists of 127 blocks of granite, each up to 4 meters tall, standing upright in a circle measuring over 30 meters in diameter.
“The stones of Rego Grande are quite extraordinary and in their irregularity may have their own unique meaning, different from other megalithic sites around the world,” Mr.
Malville said, raising the possibility that Rego Grande reflects the importance in Amazonian cultures of animism, the attribution of a soul to entities in nature and even inanimate objects.
He added, “We can only speculate what its stones mean.”
