NUMBER OF UFO SIGHTINGS ON ALL TIME HIGH IN 2017, HERE’S WHY
The first official modern sighting of an unidentified flying object (UFO) was in 1905, although there have been reports of flying saucers zooming through the skies of the Earth since the age of antiquity.
While it appears as though unusual crafts have always been present in the skies data from the National UFO Reporting Centre (NUFORC) seems to indicate that the numbers of UFOs are increasing exponentially.
The center reports that reports of sightings have shot up since the 1990s from a rate of 10,000 a year to 45,000.
This revelation has led to questions about what could be causing the rising rate of UFO sightings.
UFO SIGHTINGS ARE ON THE RISE – BUT WHY?
Naturally, the National UFO Reporting Centre is only one source of data on sightings on unidentified flying objects, and therefore it cannot definitively say to be a full representation of what is influencing the rise in UFO sightings.
It has been suggested that the center has been gaining popularity since the 1990s and this might account for some of the extra reports.
However, this factor alone is not enough to explain the huge rise in reports by itself.
According to statistician Sam Monfort, a Ph.D. student at George Mason University in Virginia, the answer might be quite simple – it may come down to a matter of convenience.
Since the 1990s, the number of people who have easy access to the internet has increased by a significant amount.
This means that people find it much easier to contact agencies such as the National UFO Reporting Centre than ever before.
In addition to this, the prevalence of smartphone and other video technology has allowed people to captured images and footage of their UFO sightings in order to provide proof of what happened to them.
Another factor, according to Monfort, could be the increased presence of drones, military aircraft, commercial aircraft and satellites in the skies which could be increasing the number of reports which are submitted in error.
