Russian Foreign Minister to Participate in Normandy Four Meeting on May 11

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will participate in a meeting of the Normandy Four group comprising Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany in Berlin on May 11, the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on Saturday.

On Friday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said Paris and Berlin envisaged the possibility of a new Normandy Four group meeting at Germany's initiative in the near future.

The Kiev authorities launched a military operation against independence militias in Ukraine's eastern in April 2014.

The confrontation has claimed over 9,000 lives, according to UN estimates.

In February 2015, the leaders of the Normandy Four group, comprising Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine, worked out a ceasefire deal in Minsk later signed by Kiev and the Donbass militia.

"Russian Foreign Minister will take part in the Normandy format meeting in Berlin on May 11," Zakharova told RIA Novosti.
